Patient Participation Group
Since the NHS underwent some restructuring the responsibility for local health services has been transferred from Primary Care Trust to newly formed Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCG). These groups conists of local GPs, nurses and other healthcare professionals.
To enable communication between the CCG and the local practices Patient Participation Groups (PPG) are required. The main objective of the PPGs is to be a link between the GPs and their patients, to build relationships, break down barriers and communicate information.
South Park Medical Practice invited petients to establish a committee for its own PPG, which came into being in November 2011. In order for the PPG to be stronger and more effective, however, a wide representation of patients of different age groups is needed.
The PPG is not only a voice for the patients, but also provides an opportunity to inform, engage and work together by strengthening the partnership between patient and practice.
